What is Horizon City, Texas like? It is a fast-growing town just outside the El Paso city limits, to the east and south, about 20 miles from downtown, popular for its heavy new-home construction and small-town feel.
Horizon City sits in El Paso County but feels like its own close-knit community, with a mayor, seven council members, and a lot of forward planning. Its population grew from about 16,700 in 2010 to close to 20,000 by 2020, driven largely by new construction along with the grocery stores, restaurants, and services that follow new homes. Eastlake Boulevard, recently widened to three lanes each way, is the main route in and out, important if you work in El Paso but live here. Schools are newer and well kept, split between the Socorro and Clint districts since Horizon City has no district of its own. Property taxes run about the same as El Paso, and you will find a mix of established 10-to-30-year-old homes and brand-new modern and Spanish-style construction.
Hi, in this video we're going to talk all about Horizon City, a small town just outside of the El Paso city limits. Welcome to the New Agent Mindset. This is a channel where we talk about all things living, working, playing in El Paso.

I'm a licensed real estate agent here in El Paso and I would love the opportunity to work with you. So, in today's video, we are talking all about Horizon City. So Horizon City is a small town outside of the El Paso city limits, but still in El Paso
County. It's to the east and the south a little bit, and it looks like that it's about 20 miles from downtown El Paso. So it's fair to say it's about 30 minutes from El Paso downtown, which splits the east
and west side essentially to Horizon City. So Horizon City is coming up a lot for the people that I've been talking to, because as people are looking at homes, they're finding a lot of new home construction, which a lot of people like, and a lot of that is actually, as you're going to see, happening in Horizon
City. And so people have been asking, what's up with Horizon City? So hopefully this video is going to give you a little bit of an overview of what's going on there and what it looks like.
So as you can see, Horizon City has experienced pretty extraordinary growth. In 2010, the population was about 16,700 and it's estimated in 2020 to be close to 20,000. So it is growing, and part of the reason is because, just like in everywhere, some people always just kind of want to be on the outside of the city.
They want to be outside of the city limits. They want to feel like they're kind of off, sort of in their own space. So this is, Horizon City is more of a subdivision type of feel. They do have some amenities, which we'll point out, but for the most part, it's just kind
of just outside of the city limits. So it kind of feels like its own smaller, maybe more close-knit kind of small town feel. As you can see, pretty small still, but they have a mayor, seven council members. They are doing a lot with, if you go and you actually look on their website, they are doing
a lot of forward thinking in their planning and their development, which I think is fantastic. And as you're going to see, there's a lot of space out there and it's very actively being developed. So a lot of that is new home construction, but also what comes with new homes, as you
know, is things like grocery stores, places where you can get your hair cut, restaurants, gas stations, all those types of places. So it is growing and they still have, it would appear to me, plenty of space to grow. And it is a nice place.
Some people have asked, are the property taxes cheaper in Horizon City than in El Paso? And I actually have a buddy who lives there. I asked him this exact question just last week and he definitively said no, that the property taxes are still pretty high like they are in El Paso.
So one of the things that people in Horizon City are excited about is Eastlake Boulevard. This is one of the main thoroughfares in and out of town and it recently, I believe, underwent a lot of construction. But now it's open and it's a nice three lane each way so people can zip in and out, get
to where they want to go, which is important for a lot of people, especially if you work in El Paso, but you live in Horizon City. Next up, schools. There are a lot of nice looking schools, just like El Paso has a lot of nice newer buildings
and facilities. Horizon City seems to be following suit. It looks like there are about four. There might be a fifth elementary school, perhaps, but there are at least four elementary
schools, three middle schools, and one very nice high school. Horizon City is actually, it doesn't have its own school district. It's actually part of two schools, two established school districts. One is Socorro, and Socorro is a city or a little town to the west, and the other school
district that Horizon City is part of is called Clint, and Clint is a bit to the south. So it doesn't have its own independent school district. It's split between Socorro and Clint. Now I want to say right away that if you live in Horizon City, I apologize because I'm sure
there are some more pleasant sites and I probably just am not familiar enough with the area to have found those sites, but I did find a couple of very nice things. One of them is this beautiful new fire station that they've developed, which I thought looks fantastic.
There are also a lot of really beautiful parks, and when I went to Horizon City's website, their parks commission has a lot of plans in the works ready for making the existing parks nicer and also creating more green spaces. There's a lot of talk about making walking paths, bike paths, there was even talk about
a BMX park, so not exactly sure what's going to happen with that one specifically, but there is, they are definitely making a very concerted effort to think about green space, to think about space where people can get out and be active, and so I think that's really fantastic.
And then, since a lot of those people that are reaching out to me on a regular basis are specifically asking me about homes for sale in the area, I thought I would just show kind of a mix of some of the different streets that I found. Some are some of the homes that you can tell have been there for a while that are probably
going on 10, 20, 30 years old, and then, as you can imagine, there's a lot of new construction going on. Most of it stays with that El Paso kind of aesthetic of a kind of modern idea, so a lot of modern houses, and then also sort of some Spanish-style homes as well.
You can see that there's plenty of open space where ongoing construction is happening, so it's a pretty busy place, but you can also see that there are some pretty established neighborhoods there too, so it's a nice mix of both new and kind of established already. So, a little bit of a different video, but like I said, so many people were reaching
out and asking me about it, I wanted to at least sort of put it out there so people could get an idea of where it's at, generally kind of what it looks like, and it's, as far as I know, like I said, I do know one particular friend of mine who built his home out there. He loves it out there, he was raving about it, he couldn't say enough great things about
it, so he's very happy out there, as I'm sure many folks are. So if living kind of outside of the city limits is something that appeals to you, Horizon City might be a good alternative for you. So I hope you found some value there.
If you like and if you're considering a move to El Paso, leave a comment. Would you rather live closer to downtown, in the city limits, or would you prefer to live outside of the city limits, maybe in some place like Horizon City? I would love to know what your thoughts are, and until next time, we'll see you later.
