Living in El Paso
What is Chico's Tacos and why is El Paso obsessed with it? Chico's Tacos is a beloved El Paso institution known for rolled beef tacos served in a tomato-based sauce, the "tacos you can drink," and the prices are unbeatable.
A single order is three rolled tacos for about $2.70, a double is six for $5.40, and you can grab a single order plus two large drinks for around $7. They come swimming in sauce, so bring napkins, but locals adore the spot for its history and flavor (there appear to be a few locations around town, including the one off Dyer Street). The video also gives a quick El Paso geography lesson: on the west side, Interstate 10 splits the area, with the Upper Valley and lots of new construction west of I-10 and the more traditional west side, backed by the Franklin Mountains, to the east.
Hi and welcome to Living in El Paso, Texas. In this episode we're going to try out Chico's Tacos. We're going to talk a little bit about an update on new construction for everybody. Hi and welcome to Living in El Paso, Texas. My name is John Peña. I'm a real
estate agent with EXP and I am an ambassador for El Paso because El Paso is an amazing place to live. It's an amazing place to grow a family, grow a business, and there are a lot of people that are feeling the same way and are making the move. So I wanted to, this is kind of a mishmash of some things. I've
been wanting to try Chico's Tacos, which is a local favorite here, and I finally did that. And I did a little bit of a new construction update because I've had a lot of people asking about new construction. And I'm also just going to kind of turn the camera around and I always like to help people kind of
understand how El Paso is laid out. And I've talked a lot about the east side, northeast, far east, Horizon City, all of that. And I've talked about the west side and the west side is just kind of thought of as one area, right? But I'm going to flip you around and show you Interstate 10 here.
So this is Interstate 10, all right? We're at rush hour here on Friday, so you can see things are picking up. But right here, Interstate 10, this is Interstate 10 going south. This is Interstate 10 starting to go north, okay? And so what I wanted to do is differentiate on the west side because
I'm looking kind of south now more or less. On the west side of Interstate 10 where I'm looking now, that is an area that we call the Upper Valley. There's a lot of new construction and that's the area where I focused our video for last week. Now over here, now we are looking east of Interstate 10, right? And there's
our Franklin Mountains. And now all of the homes in there essentially are what I would call the more traditional west side. So like I said, I'm just trying to help people kind of understand. We've got Interstate 10 and west of Interstate 10. That's a little bit of a different area. East of Interstate 10, more the
traditional west side. They certainly have some differences. One is certainly not better than the other. They're both unique in their own ways and they're both pretty awesome. So without further ado, let's go get tacos. All right everybody, finally made it out to Chico's Tacos. I think actually they
have two locations here in town. This one's kind of over kind of on the east side, kind of getting close to the northeast. So this one's off of Dyer Street. So this is supposed to be the place to go. It's funny because somebody in the comments recommended I check this place out since I'm not really from here.
And I think they said something about like this is the place where you can drink the tacos or like the tagline is tacos you can drink. And so my wife and I went on the website and we're looking at pictures and I think I'm gonna be able to explain to you why that is. So I'm gonna be that nerd walking in here
with this camera on talking to himself. But uh you know whatever I got to do for for you guys. Excuse me. We can do a single order, it's an order of three, for two dollars and seventy cents. Or I can do a double order, which is an order of six, for 5.40. They got
hamburgers, cheeseburgers, some other things. But I mean come on when you're at Chico's Tacos man, you got to get the tacos. So it's nice to see our businesses open up again here after COVID and everything. So yeah I'm gonna go for okay it says rolled beef tacos. I'm gonna go for a single order. I had a big big
breakfast so I'll come back to you when I got my food here. Hola, how are you? Good. I'm gonna try your single order of Chico's Tacos please. Yes ma'am. And can I do two drinks please? Two large, two large cokes. Si, please. Si, es todo. $6.99. Wow that is a deal.
Gracias. All right well it's hard to beat that price. Let's see. Yeah, seven bucks for a single order of Chico's Tacos and two drinks. Gracias.
Thank you. Thank you. All right so trying out these Chico's Tacos. So I think the reason they say that these are the tacos you can drink is because they like come in a in a sauce here. So they're not like your traditional taco. They're gonna be pretty awesome or super good but man you're going to need a lot
of napkins for these guys. But yeah now I start now I kind of get it. Tacos you can drink. So my review of the Chico's Tacos is pretty awesome, unbelievable price and it's super cool to be in a place that just has so much history and that locals like really admire and like to come. So all right that's Chico's Tacos. So and
while I'm here I hope I didn't say this wrong when I looked online I only saw two Chico's Tacos but according to this cup it looks like there might be five. So to anybody who to come to El Paso and wants to try kind of a local favorite this is going to be the place to go. All right thanks everybody.
All right everybody I thought I would do a little kind of new construction check-in. I've literally lately seems like everybody that's been reaching out to me is has been asking about new construction and so I'm over here on the west side of town. I am north of 375 of Trans Mountain and I am east of
Interstate 10. So last week I was west of Interstate 10 this week now I'm back over here east of Interstate 10. So this is actually a lot that I have a client under contract on. This is going to be a Desert View home. They've obviously laid foundation here. They've got the lumber in and lumber is a problem right now
with new construction because it looks like lumber has essentially doubled in price recently. And so you know when you hear about some of these prices going up or you know I've talked about these COVID addendums where they might raise the price on you after the fact. According to the builders, the main reason of that are the rising labor costs, or excuse me,
the lumber costs. And also you can see these gentlemen here working tirelessly and every once in a while the laborers decide to go to where the grass is greener. They might be working on one build and then another builder offers them a better wage and then they'll just drop ship and go to the other guy.
