Golf in El Paso Texas

Is golf good in El Paso, TX? Yes, El Paso is a near year-round golf town with affordable public courses, and walking 18 holes can run as little as the high teens to mid $20s on weekdays.

We tour the El Paso golf scene from Topgolf on the west side to courses all over the city. Ascarate Golf Course sits east of downtown off Cesar Chavez near the border wall, with 27 holes dating to 1955 (the main 18 was $18 to walk on a weekday). Painted Dunes Desert Golf in the northeast off McCombs has 27 holes at the foothills of the Franklin Mountains. We also cover Horizon Golf Club in Horizon City off Darrington, Lone Star on the east side near the airport, Underwood at Fort Bliss with military discounts, plus the private Coronado Country Club at about 4,700 feet, El Paso Country Club in the Upper Valley (established 1906), and Butterfield Trail. Most courses offer Twilight, senior, and military rates. The best playing months are roughly October through March.

Golf in El Paso Texas

Hi, welcome to Living in El Paso, Texas. My name is John Peña, and in this episode we're talking all about golf in El Paso. All right, so we are at the Topgolf on the west side. I believe there's only one Topgolf location in El Paso. We are here. So we're pretty pumped. We've got Miguel. We got Isa. We got Alejandro, Amanda, Leah's here. So we're doing like a little penny El Paso realty group Topgolf.

We're gonna go play on Monday at one of the courses down by the border wall. So that's going to be fun, but none of us are very good. So we figured that we better get some practice in before we go actually hit the greens. This is your virgin swing. This is the first one.

There you go. Nice. All right, here we are at Azcarate Golf with Alex. We're in our own little golf cart. This is fun. This is the first time I've been here, so let's see how this goes. So the first course that we're playing is Azcarate Park. This is by Azcarate Lake.

The border wall is right behind me, so it's a really awesome unique location. And so I'm going to be using a six iron because if I try to hit a wood, it's going to go 100% to the right hardcore and it'll take forever. And I'm not doing any practice swings. This is the course that you're seeing us kind of play right now.

So this one is east of downtown off of Cesar Chavez Border Highway. It's really close to the border wall actually. They have 27 holes, a driving range. This one was established in 1955. They have a main 18 holes, which is $18 to walk that on a weekday, $22 to walk it on the weekend, $15 cart fee per person. And then they have the Delta 9. That's actually what we played because at least myself and Miguel, we're pretty rough.

Danny is solid and Alejandro is pretty good too. But we did the Delta 9, $13 to walk that, $9 for a cart. So as you can start to see, prices here for golf are pretty darn reasonable. And the other nice thing is that it's virtually a year-round season here if you're into golf.

Hi, I'm Danny Yale. We're at Ascurate Golf here in El Paso, Texas. I'm a local lender with Peña El Paso. And I want to tell you that the next golf course that you'll see drone footage of is Painted Dunes Desert Golf. There are 27 golf holes there.

Okay, let's talk about Painted Dunes Desert Golf Course. This is a great course in the northeast, kind of north-northeast off of McCombs and 54 more or less. So there are 27 holes of golf to play here. There's a driving range. The course is really beautiful.

It sits at the foothills of the Franklin Mountains. And so since it's in the northeast, it's a great place to play. The course is really beautiful. It sits at the foothills of the Franklin Mountains. And so since it's in the northeast, you're just east of the Franklin Mountains, so the views here are pretty unbelievable.

So you're seeing some footage here of this course. We're just going to break down some of the fees, kind of in 2022. So non-member fees, $30 to do 18 holes walking on the weekend, $45 to do that with a cart. And then on the weekend, $41 to walk the 18 holes, $55 to do 18 holes with a golf cart.

They do have Twilight and Senior discounts. Alright, next up we got Coronado Country Club. Okay, Coronado Country Club. This one is also private. This is on the west side, just north of Thunderbird Drive, very, very close to the Franklin Mountains.

So it has pretty epic views. It's also up kind of at a higher elevation. It kind of starts where the Franklin Mountains start to climb up. So it's at 4,700 feet elevation, so you've got pretty epic views over just about everything. 18 holes, this course was established in 1957.

They've got tennis, you know, all of that stuff, restaurants. But again, this one is a private course that you have to have a membership to. Alright, and next we've got Horizon Golf Course. Horizon Golf Course.

Horizon Golf Club. This one is Horizon City, the only one in Horizon City as of right now, off of Darrington Road. This one reopened in 2013. It is 18 holes.

This one costs $20 to play those 18 holes during the weekday with a $14 cart fee. And it costs you $27 to play on the weekend, but the cart fee is only $9. Horizon Golf Club. Okay, up next is Lone Star Golf Club.

Lone Star Golf Club. Okay, this one is on the east side, kind of near the airport off of Hawkins and Montana. This one was opened in 1975. It has a driving range, it has 18 holes.

This one's going to run you about $24.50 Monday through Friday, $31 on the weekend, and a cart's going to cost you $15. And again, they do have the military and the senior discounts. Lone Star Golf Club.

Alright, next up is El Paso. Wait, I better say Paso. Next up is El Paso Country Club. El Paso Country Club.

Okay, El Paso Country Club. This is a really fancy one. This is actually a private club down in the Upper Valley. They've got tennis, swimming pools, you know, restaurant, all of that stuff.

So, this one might be the oldest one in all of El Paso. This one came into existence in 1906, which is pretty awesome. This has 18 holes with a driving range. It hosts an NCAA tournament every November.

And I have not played this course because I am not a member here, but I drive by here all the time when we show or list homes in the Upper Valley. This one's really beautiful because since it's down in the Upper Valley, there's more water down there,

so it's a little bit easier to keep this one nice and lush and green with trees and everything like that. Next course up is going to be Butterfield Trail. Okay, next up is Butterfield Trail Golf Club.

Now, we couldn't get any footage of this with the drone because it's too close to Fort Bliss, but this one is on the east side, kind of northeast of the airport. And this has 18 holes.

This is a municipal golf course. And fees are $35 to play 18 holes walking during the weekday, $45 to do 18 holes walking on the weekend. And they do have Twilight Senior military discounts.

I'm not sure exactly what the fee is for golf carts on this one. Okay, up next is the Underwood Complex at Fort Bliss. That was better. Underwood Golf Complex.

This is another one that we couldn't get drone footage of because it was too close to Fort Bliss. But this one is kind of northeast between, northeast area between 54 and Railroad Drive.

This is actually the course for Fort Bliss. So if you're in the military, you get a substantial discount to play this course. They have two 18-hole courses,

the Sunrise Course and the Sunset Course. Okay, for regular civilians, $22 to play 18 holes on the weekday, $26 to play on the weekend.

And again, of course, there are military discounts. All of these courses have military discounts, basically senior discounts, and also kind of Twilight reduced fees as well.

So that kind of wraps up our golf kind of showcase for El Paso. There is a club or a golf course in Anthony, I believe, kind of on the west side, kind of north. We didn't get to that one.

That one's a little bit out of bounds for us, more or less. And then there's actually a defunct one, Vista Hills Country Club. That's on east off of Lee Trevino.

That one was closed in 2019. It was 18 holes. Now we're not exactly sure what's going on with that one, but that one's kind of dead for now.

But you can see that, you know, if you're into golf, you know, this, we just moved from Florida. So there's a lot of golf in Florida. There's a lot of green in Florida,

but you can see that these courses are still maintained. It's a very popular sport. And, again, I think the awesome thing about golf in El Paso is that it is basically a year-long season for us.

You know, we just played. It was June. And if you get out there in the afternoon, I mean, it's going to be pretty hot.

But if you're playing in, like, October, November, December, January, February, March, that's when the weather's actually pretty nice and you could be out there, you know, any time of the day, really.

So we know that a lot of you are into golf. We hope that this one was kind of useful and gives you an idea of maybe some of your options if you're into golf and you're looking at El Paso, Texas.

So until next time, we'll see you later.
