Living in El Paso

Our First Trip to Juarez

Can you walk into Juarez from El Paso for the day? Yes. From downtown El Paso you can walk across the Paso del Norte bridge into Juarez, Mexico for just a small toll, making it an easy and affordable day trip.

One of the perks of living in El Paso is having Juarez right across the border for day trips. We parked on the El Paso side (about $3), walked across from downtown, and were into Mexico in minutes without even needing to show ID on the way in. Bring your passport or Global Entry card, since you will need it coming back, and the return walk took roughly 10 to 15 minutes. We changed some dollars to pesos, then had lunch at the historic Kentucky Club and Grill (open since 1920) on a classic Mexican plate of chile relleno, enchiladas, tacos, and a bean and cheese burrito, with the whole bill landing around $22. Friendly people, clean, and an easy, pleasant experience overall.

Our First Trip to Juarez

Hi, my name is John Peña. I'm a real estate agent in El Paso, Texas with eXp Realty, and in this episode we're actually going to travel into Juarez, Mexico. Part of the, one of the many things that's awesome about El Paso is that there are so many different kind of day trips and experiences that you can have. We have not gone into Mexico since we've been here. We actually did live in Mexico for a year,

so we're pretty comfortable and familiar with it, but we hadn't gone into Juarez just mostly because of COVID and now that we're in a better position, we decided, why not? Let's go in, and so we could not have had a more pleasant experience there. It was, it was lovely. We walked in from downtown, the Paso del Norte Port of Entry,

that dead ends on El Paso Street. We walked straight across. It essentially cost us, you know, $1.50 to go in for three of us, $1.50 to come out. Took us about 10, 15 minutes to get across the border back into the United States. If you do go, make sure you take your passport or your global entry card, what have you, but as you're going to see,

great experience. Everybody's super friendly, very clean place. We had a great lunch, had a great time. If you are interested in real estate or potentially moving or relocated to El Paso, please consider reaching out to me. I'd love to answer any of your questions, and without further ado, Juarez, Mexico.

All right, here we are off of Santa Fe. We're going to go in on the El Paso side. There's downtown right there. And going in with the family, and I'm pretty excited. I think I'm about to pay $3.00 to park. All right, so I just paid my $3.00 to park the car here on the American side, and we're going to go ahead and walk in from here.

Okay, so there's three of us, and we just paid $30.00 to walk in. I thought we were going to have to show our ID or something like that, but nope, just walked right in, so pretty easy. All right, so I think we're going into the Mexico side here. Probably got to do some ID. Okay, never mind. I have not had to show my ID once. We just walked straight in, and we're in Mexico. Awesome.

So we came in off the El Paso entrance from downtown. And we're going to look for some place to get a bite to eat, and maybe try to check out some markets. I think maybe we're also going to change some money. I think maybe we're also going to change some money.

So I'm going to change $60.00 right across the border here. Okay, so I changed $60.00. Looks like the exchange rate is $18.40, so I ended up with $1,104.00. $1,104.00. I'm actually looking for a dentist, and I spotted a sign right over there, so I'd like to get my teeth cleaned.

So this is the Kentucky, supposed to be world famous. I think we're going to go ahead and check this out. Just got my temperature checked. Oh, the youngin's getting ID'd. She is 19, so I think we're going to be good. I believe you can drink at 18, and look at that. Young person's dream come true.

Alright, so here we are. Kentucky Club and Grill, since 1920. So obviously all the prices here are in pesos. I'm always a sucker for burritos. 70 pesos, that's like 3 or 4 bucks, I think. Leah was pretty excited about the tacos, but she didn't know how to say tacos in Spanish.

Tacos. Looks like the tacos are going to run you. 6, 7, 8 bucks. Okay, now it is barely afternoon, but we did splurge for the alcohol drinks, just because we could.

Okay, so I got the Mexican plate here. Chile relleno, yes, my Spanish is terrible. Taco, enchiladas. Oh, that's right. Bean & Cheese Burrito. And tacos, what's the word Leah? Pollo?

Pollo. Si, muy bien. Alrighty, so we just finished up. Definitely members of the clean plate club. Oh, yees!

Myelada, hun, ryan cheez-ees. It's a pantsorridge roll. And our total bill, 425 pesos, which equates to $22.49. My beer was 40 pesos.

Margaritas, two of those for 100, so 50 pesos. I think about 100 pesos is about 5 bucks right now. So, margaritas were about $2.50. My beer was around 2 bucks.

Pretty good. Off to the next place. So, this is cool. There's our Franklin Mountains.

From Mexico's view. And, I made it. We definitely gotta go fast, but that's nothing. We'll be right back.
