Shopping in East El Paso Texas [2021]

Hi and welcome to Living in El Paso, Texas. My name is John Peña. I'm a real estate agent here in El Paso, and in this episode we're going to talk about shopping options on the east side.

One way we're showing that: I was looking through the comments the other day, and somebody seemed really concerned about what the shopping opportunities are here. Some people might still think El Paso is an older town with just a bunch of old, dusty stores, and that is not the case, as you are about to see. We have plenty of options. We are a modern city, just like everywhere else in this country. We've got all the stores you'd expect, and then some.

So in this episode we're going to focus on some specific areas: Horizon City, the Northeast, the East, and the Far East, and what the shopping options are like in each. Of course there are tons more options, but for this video we just wanted to show you the bigger options in some of these different areas. So with that said, let's check out east side shopping in El Paso.

Horizon City

First off, Horizon City. This is right off Interstate 10 and Eastlake, and yes, that is the Amazon distribution warehouse coming to town. Horizon City is a very popular and growing community, essentially east and somewhat south, but just north of Interstate 10. When we first moved here a couple years ago, none of this was here, so you're going to be able to see what has happened ever so recently. You can see the mountains there, and with that, here are some of the new shopping opportunities in Horizon City.

They are continuing to do a lot of building to keep up with the demand. Out here it's flat, which is part of why it makes sense that they'd develop this area: there's land, and it's flat, so you're in business. Of course there are more places, but this is the main hub right now for folks in Horizon City.

Far East

Second stop, the Far East. We're heading up north. You can see the star there on the map, circled in the Far East. This is Loop 375 and Zaragoza. The Far East has been around for a long time, and it's been the most popular suburb, I'd say, in the last 20 years. It's mostly newer homes, 5, 10, 15 years old, with some older homes mixed in, but mostly newer. It caters primarily to a lot of the military folks moving to El Paso, just because it's right off Loop 375 and really close to the base.

There's a lot of options in the Far East now, significantly more shopping than in Horizon City, by a landslide. They keep building new, really nice mid-range to high-range strip mall situations, a lot of them really nice: restaurants, bars, a new Albertsons that just opened up. So plenty of shopping. We'll let you take a look at some of the options in the Far East.

Northeast

Next stop, the Northeast. For the most part, this area has been around for a long time, so there are a lot of older homes and well-established neighborhoods. But there are also newer homes and plenty of shopping opportunities as well.

East Side

This is the east side. It's not circled on the map, it's basically just to the left of the Far East. Essentially it's the area near the base and near the airport, a little further east, right off Interstate 10. It's been around for a very long time, with very well-established homes, not a lot of new homes, but well-established. There are a lot of options here as well, so there's no shortage. This is one of the nicer areas right off Interstate 10 in Hawkins, with a newer kind of outdoor mall type of situation. We'll let you check out some of the shopping options in the east.

Bonus: Occulto Horror Film Festival

Hello everyone, this is Miguel, and I just wanted to quickly talk to you guys about an event that Living in El Paso, Texas is bringing to the channel. It's the start of October, and with Halloween approaching, people like to get into the spooky season mindset by typically watching a lot of horror films online. We'd like to present you with an alternate choice: maybe attending the Occulto Horror Film Festival.

This is a film festival that's going to take place here in El Paso, Texas, and in Ciudad Juárez. It's going to be a five-day thing: two days in El Paso, the 22nd and the 23rd, then three days in Juárez, from the 29th through the 31st. Filmmakers from all around the world get to showcase some of their best short horror films, with a chance to win prizes and be broadcast on Mexico's Cinemax. Tickets will be on sale for $50 for one day, $30 for two days, and a VIP pass would be $50.

This is going to be the first year that they decided to bring it to El Paso, Texas. This is usually a Ciudad Juárez exclusive, but we're very glad to have it be on this side of the border as well. All of these events will start off with a meet and greet, followed by the actual screening of the short horror films, which is, I believe, about an hour long typically. After that there's going to be an after party with live music and drinks. I think there's also going to be a Halloween costume contest and things of that nature.
