The East Side of El Paso Texas

What is the East Side of El Paso like? It is the area east of the Franklin Mountains, anchored by the Fountains at Farah, strong schools and parks, Fort Bliss, and the El Paso International Airport.

East of the Franklin Mountains, the east side is where a lot of El Paso's shopping, schools, and new construction come together. We visit the Fountains at Farah, an open air retail and dining complex off Interstate 10, and Red Sands, a red tinted off-road and hiking area minutes away. As a former teacher, John walks through what El Paso's school system looks like, plus the city's 250 plus parks and recreation centers. The east side is also home to Fort Bliss, headquarters of the 1st Armored Division, and the El Paso International Airport just northeast of downtown, which makes this area especially convenient for military families and frequent travelers.

The East Side of El Paso Texas

Hi and welcome to Living in El Paso, Texas. My name is John Peña and today I'm going to share with you some of the sights of the east side of El Paso. The Franklin Mountains split the east side from the west side and today I'm going to show you all over the east side. Next up is the Fountains at Farah, an outdoor retail complex with stores and restaurants set in a landscaped space with a

performance stage. Here you can find many brand-name stores as well as local boutique shops to satisfy any shopping therapy needs you may have. There are a number of nice restaurants and plenty of dessert shops for your sweet tooth. The fountains are very family-friendly. They have a water area for kids in the summer, a stage where family entertainment takes place, and an outdoor movie area.

The fountains are located right in the heart of the east side with easy access on and off of Interstate 10. One of the things that we really like is the care with which the landscaping has been designed and maintained. It's a really pleasant place just to spend a day or to pick up those things that you need or just look around and enjoy the sights.

Red Sands is a beautiful area offering scenic views and a whole lot more. It's called Red Sands due to its unique reddish-brown tint caused by iron oxide deposits. It has been a popular area for off-road enthusiasts for over 40 years. You can bring your own off-road vehicles and tear it up, or you can rent ATVs, UTVs, and the like on site.

Additionally, there is a massive paintball area here to take advantage of or you can even hike the dunes on foot, which is something that we've done a number of times. This is a great recreation area just minutes from the east side. The schools in El Paso serve over 58,000 students, employ 9,000 employees, and there are currently 51 elementary schools, 15 middle schools, 10 traditional high schools, 1 K-8 school, 4 specialty schools, and 4 alternative campuses.

I was a teacher before becoming a real estate agent, so education is a topic near and dear to my heart. Our kids have both graduated high school, but we still have a keen interest in education, and I would say that the citizens of El Paso share that keen interest. One thing that you'll notice about El Paso is that they are always improving and adding on to their existing schools.

The residents of the community value education and are willing to invest in it because they know that the young people truly are the future. El Paso is home to a great many families with children, and the quality of the schools here certainly reflects that. The Parks and Recreation Department of El Paso oversees more than 250 parks and almost 3,000 acres of open space within the city limits. There are a number of spray parks, aquatic centers, countless trails, 16 current recreation centers with everything from boxing to racquetball,

as well as 4 future recreation centers that are in the works. You can rent the park shelters for family and friend events. There are a number of senior center locations as well with dances and games. There are a ton of adult sports leagues, classes for parents, and a huge variety of youth sports leagues and programs. There are dog parks, tons of open space to exercise. All of this footage was shot on the east side within the city.

You literally can't go very long without running into a park here. As you navigate the east side, you will certainly notice plenty of new construction for retail and service industries. As this area continues to grow, developers are seizing on the opportunities that are presenting themselves. A lot of the new construction is modern and aesthetic look and feel.

Fort Bliss is a U.S. Army post in New Mexico and Texas with its headquarters in El Paso. It is home to the 1st Armored Division, also known as Old Ironsides, and is comprised of approximately 1.2 million acres. The base is a diverse community made up of soldiers, family members, students, employees, and retirees. It contains training ranges, offices, barracks, and housing as well as services like child care, youth programs, on-post shopping and entertainment facilities, and medical clinics.

The Fort Bliss area is home to 39,000 military personnel and supports over 40,000 family members of active duty and retired personnel. It also employs over 13,000 civilians. The El Paso International Airport is on the east side, just 4 miles northeast of downtown. It's the largest civil airport in west Texas and southern New Mexico, handling over 3.5 million passengers in 2019.

The major airlines that operate here are Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, American Airlines, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, and United currently. It's a really great airport, super easy to get in and out of. My wife was doing a lot of traveling when we first moved here, so I was constantly there dropping her off and picking her up. It's so nice, it's never crazy busy, it's small, it's compact, but it all makes sense.

They recently did some renovations that look great. There's some extra space that they're starting to develop in anticipation of the growth of the city. Okay, so there you have it. That's the east side of El Paso. There's certainly way, way, way more than we could have ever shown you in that little video, but stay tuned.

Next time I'm going to show you some of the sights on the west side. And if you're looking to buy, sell, or invest in El Paso, please remember that I'm a real estate agent and I would love the opportunity to earn your business. Thank you.
