Living in El Paso
What is there to do in downtown El Paso? Plenty: San Jacinto Plaza at the center, the Arts District museums, an Artist and Farmers Market, the downtown ballpark, the Plaza Theatre, and a growing restaurant scene.
We tour downtown and show what a day there looks like. It starts at San Jacinto Plaza, the central park with a cafe serving Mexican-style treats, decked out for Winterfest with a Celebration of Lights Parade and ice skating. From there we walk the Arts District past the Museum of Art and the Museum of History, stop at the Artist and Farmers Market on Anthony Street (open 10am to 2pm) for unique vendors, and see Southwest University Park (home of the Chihuahuas), the Plaza Theatre, and the historic Plaza Hotel. We also ride the uptown streetcar to show how family-oriented El Paso is. After COVID, new restaurants keep popping up at great prices.
Hi, and welcome to Living in El Paso, Texas. My name is John Peña, and in this video we're going to talk about downtown El Paso. Hi thank you so much for checking out the YouTube channel. My name is John Peña.
I am your real estate agent in El Paso, Texas if you are looking to buy or sell here. And in this episode, we're going to talk a little bit about downtown El Paso. Just because, you know, we do showcase a lot of the different areas in El Paso, and we're going to do that more and more.
However, downtown is unique in that there's so much to do and a lot of people probably don't know, you know, what our downtown is like. For instance, my wife Leah and I, last night we went to one of the restaurants that we really love here.
What we love about downtown is that after COVID, a lot of new restaurants are kind of starting to pop up. The city is starting to kind of bounce back from all of that. And there's a lot going on here.
And so this is some of the footage from from our evening last night. Like I said, an unbelievable meal at a ridiculously affordable price. That's another thing that we like about El Paso. And so for the rest of the video, though, we asked Miguel and Alex to go check out the
downtown, bring you back some footage. They're going to talk about San Jacinto Plaza, some of the art museums, there's a farmers and artists market, trolleys. There's a stadium where we have all the different sports activities happening.
And so I think you're going to be happily surprised to see how much there is to do in El Paso in the downtown area. Okay, so here we are at San Jacinto Plaza. This plaza is basically at the center of downtown El Paso.
And as you can see here by the footage, it's basically just a park where you can come in and hang out with friends, take pictures, maybe. As you'll see in the footage right now, there's a little cafe located at the plaza in case you ever get hungry or just want a snack or perhaps a drink.
The cool thing about this little cafe is that it actually caters to more of a Hispanic or Mexican taste as there is a lot of treats and snacks that you would typically find across the border. As you can see here, there's plenty of people working hard to get the plaza ready for the
upcoming Winterfest, which is going to be from the 20th of November to the 2nd of January. Now this festival is going to start with the celebration of Lights Parade, which is set to start at 4.30pm here at the plaza. And there's going to be plenty of events and activities like shopping or ice skating for
everyone to enjoy. So make sure to stop by for some quality fun. Eventually at around 5.30pm is when they'll start the lighting ceremony at the plaza and that's when they're going to just light up all the fancy Christmas lights that they have
set up throughout the plaza. And if you would actually like to take a sneak peek at that, you can just wait till the end of the video and see some of the footage that we got. Next, we're going to talk about the Arts District of downtown El Paso.
Now something that I personally really like about this area is that there's plenty of signs everywhere that kind of direct you around and show you where everything is. And I don't know if this is a problem for you, but personally, I sometimes have trouble getting around the area, so I always look at either my Google Maps or Apple Maps, whatever.
But it's actually nice that they have plenty of these little maps set out throughout the area for you to find yourself. Here we're at the Museum of Art, which unfortunately I have not visited yet, but if you guys would like to see a video on that, feel free to let us know in the comments and I'll make
sure to stop by and film it for you guys so you can see it. Now the Museum of History we have actually covered in the past before, so if you guys would like to see a video on this that's more in-depth, feel free to take a look at that. But here is just some of the pretty digital work that they have outside, as well as some
of the artwork. Another fun thing that you can do in downtown is visit the Artist and Farmers Market, which is located at 117th Anthony Street, and it's going to be from 10am to about 2pm. And the cool thing about this market is that you're going to find a lot of things that
you won't find anywhere else, such as this dehydrated ice cream and candies and cheesecakes. I actually did like what they had to offer, the vendor here had plenty of samples to offer us, and that ended up with me buying myself a little pouch of some candy here. We also saw this vendor that was selling soaps that were made from all natural ingredients,
which of course my girlfriend adored, so we had to stop by and look at their inventory, and we ended up taking something home for us. Of course we couldn't showcase the downtown area without showing the Chihuahua Stadium, which is otherwise known as the Southwest University Park, and here is basically where
we have all our great sporting events in El Paso. There's also plenty of events or shows that you can catch here at the Plaza Theater. Here we're going to show you the Plaza Hotel, which is one of the oldest buildings here in El Paso, and it's great to see just because it's one of the tallest buildings that we
have here. Here as you can see their ice rink is already set up and there's plenty of children already having fun, they're getting themselves ready for the upcoming Winterfest, so if you want to get yourself some ice skates and join them, feel free.
So hopefully this video kind of showed you what downtown life is like and gave you an idea of things that you can possibly do here if you want to visit it yourself. Now if you stuck all the way to the end of this video, this was the sneak peek of all the lights at the plaza that I was talking about, so feel free to enjoy.
Something fun that we decided to do as well was take the streetcar that's available in the uptown area, now this doesn't really showcase the downtown but we wanted to show that the El Paso culture here is very centered around being family oriented, as you can see here this is going to be a ride and read that they have for kids, but we just decided to tag
along because we figured we might see something we'd enjoy. Welcome to the streetcar, and before we start going I want you to give a big hand to our streetcar driver today! He's awesome!
And welcome to the El Paso Public Library Green Man's Ride! Thank you so much for coming out, it was a little chilly this morning, so we really appreciate you guys being out here. Now, I want to tell you before we go on, next week, believe it or not, downtown is a Wintertown
celebration, so make sure to make plans for next Saturday for the big parade downtown, it's a little bit earlier this year, but that's okay, it'll be nice to have a nice celebration in the middle of the holiday. See you next week!
